Ketu, the south node of the Moon rules this lunar mansion, as does Mars. It consists of three stars in the head of the Ram. These fixed stars are Mesarthim, Al Sharatain and Hamal. It is also known as the "star of transport".
An adventurous spirit is experienced here, a thirst for life and also the awakening of consciousness. A horse's head is one of the symbols of this nakshatra and the power and stamina of the horse, as well as a headstrong and impulsive nature can be experienced.
When the Moon is passing through Ashwini, it is a wonderful time to begin a journey or an adventure. Playfulness, curiousity and the courage to explore new places are enhanced.
The primary motivation is Dharma or "right action" Ethical conduct, leadership, authority and honor are emphasized.
Expressed through shadow this energy can be too impulsive, aggressive, stubborn and arrogant.
The Ashwins are pictured as the divine physicians or mystical doctors, riding in a Golden Chariot (the Sun, which is exalted in this nakshatra) and bestowing healing energy upon the Earth, rejuvenating mind, body and spirit. The Ashwins are forces of Prana (life force) that heal and rejuvenate.
